Benno MailArchiv users have always appreciated and praised the high processing speed and performance of our email archiving solution. With the version 2.8.4 released in recent days, Benno MailArchiv still breaks all previous performance records.

Through various code optimizations in benno-core, the processing speed when archiving (and indexing) emails could be significantly increased.

The performance improvements average approx. 250%!

The speed improvements come into play not only during archiving, but also during indexing. A required re-indexing of the archive stock thus succeeds significantly faster.Auch die Geschwindigkeit bei der Anzeige von E-Mails in der Benno MailArchiv WebApp konnte durch die Optimierungen verbessert werden.

Noteworthy is also that the performance increase has a much more significant effect on large emails and especially on large and very large email attachments than on smaller emails and attachments.

Below, we present a performance comparison between the previous Benno MailArchiv version 2.8.2 and the new version 2.8.4:

Initial situation:

  • System environment: virtualized test environment on simple PC hardware
  • Number of emails to be archived: 62,630 emails
  • Size of uncompressed emails: 21 GB
Version 2.8.2Version 2.8.4
Runtime (hours)4.0 h1.6 h
Throughput (emails per second)4.35 emails/s10.87 emails/s
Time saving60%
Performance gain250%

We have now released the code optimizations that bring about these performance improvements in version 2.8.4, as they are independent of the architectural innovations and extensions of the next product generation (Benno MailArchiv v3), which is expected to be released towards the end of 2020.

The new release is available for download immediately. Customers with valid software maintenance can update to the new version free of charge.
